What about Duct Repair & Sealing?
On Average 25-40% of air moving in the duct system is lost due to leaks, holes, & poorly connected ducts. Occasionally we find ductwork that is rusted through, crushed-damaged, full of water, full of rodent holes & fecal matter or left unsealed completely. Anytime we find ductwork in this condition, we will inform you as you can imagine the air quality issues stemming from these situations as well as the high cost to operate your system. Moisture should not be present in your air ducts and if moisture and dirt are present together, the potential exists for biological contaminants like bacteria, mold & fungi to grow.
If you have insulated air ducts and the insulation has gotten wet or moldy, it cannot be properly cleaned & you would need to do duct replacement. We will always recommend correcting the cause of fungi growth to prevent future recurrence. Anytime insulation gets wet, it loses its insulating abilities and this means a higher cost to operate the system.
If your home has leaky ducts, your HVAC system loses expensive conditioned air before the air can circulate through your living area. Leaking ductwork places undue stress on your HVAC system as your system runs longer and harder to keep your home comfortable. Not only will your system use more energy, but the stress can cause system breakdowns and failures, even if your HVAC unit is relatively new. Add the cost of repairs to your increased energy costs, and you can quickly see that sealing the leaks in your ductwork can save you money.
